Founded in 1926, Kuhn GmbH produces high-grade quality machinery equipment such as screens, washing presses and grit washers for the headworks of wastewater treatment plants. Kuhn is also the largest and most experienced German manufacturer of Archimedean screw pumps. Kuhn machinery and equipment has been installed in Europe, Asia, North and South America, Africa and Australia.

In recent years Kuhn has been awarded two notable awards by the Rhine-Neckar metro region and the Baden-Württemberg Ministry for the Environment. Kuhn earned commendation for innovative parallel applications for heat and energy recovery from wastewater using a hybrid Archimedean screw pump with water heat recovery.

  • Boomerang XL Multi-Rake Bar Screen

The Kuhn KHU Boomerang XL Multi-Rake Bar Screen (KHU-B XL) has been developed to achieve maximum flow rate with minimal headloss. The unique frame construction of the KHU-B XL extends the screen to the channel walls, utilising the full width of the channel. Capable of managing high grit loads, this screen is ideal for treatment plants that are subject to sudden or extreme loads.

  • KN Multi-Rake Bar Screen

The Kuhn KHU KN Multi-Rake Bar Screen differs from other multi-rake bar screens with a flat, inclined, separation surface that is normally set at an inclination angle of 30°—40°. This screen has been designed to use in pre-existing channels. With its optimised filtration capacity and faster cleaning speed this rake is suitable for situations where there is an accumulation of screenings with high impact forces.

  • SL Multi-Rake Bar Screen

The Kuhn KHU SL Multi-Rake Bar Screen is a reliable option for small to medium sized channels. With a hydraulically optimised 45° installation angle, this screen features an open design which maximises the screen grating width and results in a raking field across most of the channel.

  • Multi-Rake Bar Screen

The Kuhn KHU Multi-Rake Bar Screen has been designed to meet extreme conditions. It is a reliable solution when maximum channel/highest discharge heights are needed, particularly where large throughput volumes or extremely wide channels are involved. This bar screen has a stable and robust design that makes it ideally suited to plants characterised by high volumes of disturbance material (stones, sand, etc.). Oversizing of stress-related elements ensures that components, and the entire system, enjoy a long service life.

  • Knuckle Rake Screen

The Kuhn KGR Knuckle Rake Screen is highly robust, hard wearing and corrosion resistant. It is suitable for installation into small channels, shafts or pumping stations without special hydraulic requirements. The longitudinally stable chain design makes it possible to have a loop-shaped hanging mode of operation, enabling the rake bars to centre themselves and ensuring the teeth of the rake plates penetrate deeply between rake bars — blockages of the bar rack are minimised.

  • Drum Screen

The Kuhn KST Drum Screen can be adapted to meet the ever-changing developments and expectations of the modern wastewater treatment industry. The hole diameter of the very fine drum screen inside the machine can be adjusted. This ensures particulate in raw wastewater is reliably separated out under stable operating conditions.

  • Spiral Screen

The Kuhn KSS Spiral Screen represents a new generation of fine screen filters which conforms to state-of-the-art technological standards, both in production and onsite operation. It provides the complete treatment of screenings in a single machine — separation, washing and pressing. Fault-free operation, long service life, less maintenance and simple integration into existing plants are just some of the advantages of this type of machine.

  • Step Screen

The Kuhn KSR Step Screen is a robust stainless steel screen that is predominantly used in the preliminary treatment of municipal and industrial waste. The screen comprises both movable and fixed lamella ‘steps’.

In normal operation the lamellas remain stationary. Solid matter is caught by the step-like screening surface forming a mat which is responsible for the main filtration. Once a difference in water level is identified across the screen then the moving lamellas elevate the screenings mat up one or two steps before stopping once again, releasing the flow through the screen and reducing the level once again. The screen stepping stops and again the system awaits for a level rise to repeat its cleaning process.

Sound control of a step screen can yield improved results for screenings capture. The screenings mat greatly assists in the capture of smaller aperture screenings in relation to the selected lamella gap width.

  • Wash Press (Premium)

The Kuhn KWP-P (Premium) Wash Press is used to treat organic matter after the pre-separation of screenings. Screenings are transferred to the wash press where they are efficiently and effectively washed, dewatered and compacted.

  • Wash Press (Heavy Duty)

The Kuhn KWP-HD (Heavy Duty) Wash Press contains the many excellent features of the KWP-P (Premium). In addition, this high-quality, heavy-duty wash press is fitted with an extra stable and robust 3-D lasered separation screen. The screen’s enlarged open area makes it highly resistant to clogging. Both the separation screen and wear rails in the KWP-HD are replaceable. This wash press has a powerful, robust design and improved access for maintenance and cleaning.

  • Spiral Conveyor/Sluicing Launder

Kuhn KSF Spiral Conveyors are used for transporting solid matter and sludge, especially sludge which tends to be tacky and sticky — such as siftings and screenings from wastewater treatment plants.

Kuhn KLS Sluicing Launders are used for transporting screenings slurry via gravity from the discharge of a screen to screenings processing equipment. The Kuhn KLS Sluicing Launder utilises the same trough as the Kuhn KSF Spiral Conveyor.

All Kuhn spiral conveyors and sluicing launders can be designed as completely closed systems thereby avoiding dust, moisture and odour emissions. Their high-quality, wear-resistant materials ensure a long service life. The construction is modular in nature to ensure maximum flexibility and customisation.

  • Screenings Shredder

The Kuhn KRZ Screenings Shredder has been designed to be used in in conjunction with Kuhn wash presses. The screenings shredder can be flange-connected directly to the wash press discharge chute. A shaftless screw with multiple flights then shreds the previously washed, dewatered and compressed screenings.

  • Grit Classifier

The KUHN KSK Grit Classifier separates sediment into solid and fluid constituents. The classifier’s robust design and low energy consumption provide long-term investment security.

  • Grit Washer

Sediment, composed of a mixture of organic sludge, solid matter of various types and mineral grit, builds up in sewer systems and grit chambers. The KUHN KSW-S/RW Grit Washer and Separating machine separates sediment into organic solid matter and mineral grit parts, enabling separate disposal.

  • Hydropower Screw Pump

The power-generating Kuhn KWKS Hydropower Screw Pump is sustainable, efficient, reliable and economical. Powered by the height difference of the water and a flat angle of installation, the mechanical force of the water is converted into electrical energy and heat.

  • Archimedean Screw Pump

The Kuhn KWS Archimedean Screw Pump is unsurpassed by any other type of pump in terms of technology and efficiency. Operational reliability combined with a long service life makes it an economical conveying system – especially for wastewater.

  • Hybrid Screw Pump

The Kuhn Hybrid Screw Pump uses the screw trough as a large-surface heat exchanger by integrating water-conveying channels. In the secondary circuit water flows along the rear side of the trough and takes up wastewater heat. It then is transported to a commercial heat pump where the temperature level is increased and supplied to the consumer for use. This process does not impair the primary function of the screw.

  • Headworks Unit

The Kuhn KKA Headworks Unit combines a screening and grit filtration plant in a durable, reliable compact design. It is used for screening and filtering screenings and grit from municipal and industrial wastewater and sewage.

  • KOPA Compact System

The Kuhn KOPA Compact System is an all-in-one wastewater processing plant for first-stage wastewater treatment. The use of efficient Kuhn screens and wash press ensure the screenings are reduced in volume by approximately 60% and in weight by approximately 50%, resulting in savings in disposal costs.
